What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service to provide materials NOT owned by Beaman Library. The National Interlibrary Loan Code sets policy for all participating libraries.
Who is eligible for Interlibrary Loan?
Current faculty and staff and currently enrolled students may use this service.
What can be borrowed?
Books and copies of journal articles may be requested from other libraries.*
Textbooks for classes cannot be requested through interlibrary loan.
What is the borrowing period?
Loan periods are determined by the lending library.
What is the cost?
All loans and copies are free to you unless you do not return a book. In that case you will receive an email from the library with a bill for the unreturned item. This cost will be determined by the library from which the book was borrowed and not by Lipscomb. You will be expected to pay the bill at Beaman Library.
How is a request made?
Requests are made electronically through the Beaman Library web site https://5177.account.worldcat.org/account/route/wsill/workform. The forms must be completed accurately for the request to be made.
How many items can be borrowed?
Undergraduates may request up to 10 items per semester. Graduate Students and faculty are limited to 3 requests per week.
How long will it take to receive the item?
Books usually take from 2 to 3 weeks. Most articles are sent electronically and may come in as little as 3 days. Always check with the ILL office if there is a concern.
Where is the interlibrary loan item returned?
Books must be returned to the Reference Desk on or before the due date . Articles do not need to be returned unless otherwise indicated.
What is the status of my item?
Check your library account by clicking on "My Account" on the home page. Then click "requests" to see where in the requesting/borrowing process your item is currently. Or email ellen.marshall@lipscomb.edu with questions.
*Not all books or articles can be borrowed. If a request cannot be filled, an email will be sent with an explanation.
