What is Evidence-Based Nursing?

Scholarly literature offers various definitions for "evidence-based nursing" and the broader term "evidence-based practice." Scott and McSherry's literature review examines the numerous definitions of evidence-based nursing and combines them into the following comprehensive definition:

"An ongoing process by which evidence, nursing theory and the practitioners’ clinical expertise are critically evaluated and considered, in conjunction with patient involvement, to provide delivery of optimum nursing care for the individual" (p.1089).
